No, there is still no recognised AI certification for SMBs
Many business owners search for an official “AI compliant” certification to apply for. It does not exist at EU level yet. CE marking for high-risk AI only arrives later in the AI Act timeline, and separate labels are private initiatives, not legal recognition.
In brief
- A legally recognised AI certification does not exist yet at EU level.
- CE marking for high-risk AI systems only follows once those obligations take effect.
- Documenting what you do in a demonstrable way already works as evidence towards customers and supervisors.
Where the confusion comes from
The AI Act talks about conformity assessments and CE marking, and that sounds like a label you apply for, the way you would for an ISO certification. But that marking only exists once the high-risk obligations actually take effect, and even then it is mandatory for specific systems, not a voluntary label for your entire company.
What already exists, and what does not
There are private initiatives and consultants offering “AI compliant” badges. Those can be useful as self-assessments, but they carry no legal status. Our AI Compliance Scan is deliberately not a label, but a snapshot of your status that you can substantiate yourself.
What you can already show, without a label
Supervisors and customers ask for demonstrability more often than for a stamp: an overview of your AI systems, who makes the decisions about them, and which agreements you have with suppliers. You can put that in order right now, regardless of which certification ever arrives.
No label is no excuse to document nothing.
